Prison Rape and Candy Bars Pt. Two

I’m going to let you in on some insider information about AfterPrisonShow…

For those of you who have been here since the days when I was in prison, and this blog first began..

And this wasn’t called The After Prison Show, ( which now has been shorten to AfterPrisonShow to coincide with the YouTube channel name.)  .

Back when this blog was called JoeWritesHisWrongs….

I made a post called Prison Rape and Candy Bars.

Well, here is the insider information about this site…

Did you know that THAT post is my TOP VIEWED POST EVER..!?

WTF?!?!

Everyday I look at the for this site and THAT POST is ALWAYS viewed..!

Sometimes even multiple times a day.!

Because of this, I almost even changed the name of my YouTube channel to the name of that post.!

With all of this being said, and known, I really wanted to make a VIDEO on my channel about the actual Prison Rape and Candy Bars post.

Better yet, I’M GOING TO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THE POST!

But the reason I haven’t done so yet, is because I couldn’t find the exact video that we had to watch when I first arrived at prison.

And believe me…

I’d been looking for it.

Well, guess what..?

I FINALLY FOUND IT..!

This is the video I had to watch in prison that had pale little frail white kids white knuckle to the bottom of their seats…

Truth be told, I was, too…

I’m going to make a video for AfterPrisonShow on YouTube using this video, and offering my take on the things they talk about in it.

That will be coming soon…

But I figured all of you who do take the time to check out this blog and have dealt with my serious bouts of infidelity… (Yes, YouTube is my true heart. I’m sorry. lol)

All of you deserve a treat.

Flowers would be ideal. But in place of that, how about a REAL LIVE “PRISON RAPE AND CANDY BARS VIDEO…?”

What follows is the video I just recently found…

That is very “GRIPPING…”

Maybe a poor choice of words.

Still, this is the Prison Rape and Candy Bars video I had to watch in prison. And that I’ll soon be making MY OWN VIDEO based off…

Enjoy.

BTW. The sound quality on this video is very low for some reason.

A little update about an awesome job I found as an ex con with little experience.

So here’s a little logic to keep in mind for the afterprisonshow.

If I’m not posting, that is because I’m working.

But if I am posting, well then, obviously I am not working…

Unless of course we’re talking about anytime I posted while at work on a job for the temp service…

Working on jobs that did not matter at all…

( I will never miss an opportunity to take jabs at them…)

So yeah, I’ve been working my ass off lately. And today, it’s Friday and I’m not work.

Why..?

Well because we worked 16 straight hours yesterday with no lunch break..!

Crazy right..?

Sounds like something I might complain about right..?

Well, surprisingly. I’m not.

Why..?

Because this job is actually a good job with a lot of room for advancement.

Especially for a guy like me.

An ex con who works hard and is willing to learn what he needs to in order to advance.

So, let me give you a little background  about this job, and what this first week on it has been like.

First, I have to say, that it’s always funny being the new guy and trying to figure out what is what and who is who…

Kind of a lot like life in prison.

But since getting hired I’ve realized a few things…

  1. I’m not the only new guy… There are tons of new guys… In fact most everyone I seem to meet is relatively new.
  2. Not a lot of these guys are really willing to go the extra mile to make a name for themselves at this company. But I am, and that extra push I put into this job is already being recognized… AND AFTER ONLY A WEEK AT THAT..!

There is one other thing that I realized as well. But I wanted to seperate this from the list for the fact that it is pretty crazy…

There was this new guy who started maybe a week before me…

He was hired as a supervisor…

When he introduced himself to me…

He did so as “Supervisor..”

A real character this guy WAS.

What I guess he did was told the company that he had 15 YEARS of experience and they in turn said…

“Well, holy shit..! We’re going to hire you as a supervisor then..!”

FYI… I told the company I had “a little experience.”

Turns out this guy didn’t know shit about the job or the concrete casting trade…

Also, he didn’t know how to be a supervisor either. And that little power title went to his head faster than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest…

Sorry. I was looking for a funny redneck metaphor…

It was the best one I could find on the fly.

This supervisor guy was causing all sorts of problems and making life on the job really difficult.

Just as my work ethic was being recognized, so was this guys problematic nature…

He got fired last night.

This week I worked 7 hours on Tuesday.

2 hours on Wednesday. ( In part due to the supervisor fraud and him causing problems with some of the guys. Who in part, called the real boss. And in part sent everyone home…)

Maybe they were testing that supervisors, supervising abilities which turned out to be an EPIC fail…

Funny too, how all we were doing on Tuesday was PICKING UP TRASH..!

BUT, something GOOD did come from Tuesday…

I did learn how to operate a BOBCAT.bobcat-760078.jpg

One thing, among many other things that I like about this company is that they will let you learn anything here…

If you want to learn to operate heavy equipment…

“Hey get in there…”

I do have a little experience with heavy equipment, too.

So I jumped at the opportunity to get some more with this bobcat.

By the way…

Operators of heavy equipment make more money..!

I want more money.

So again, Tuesday 7 hours…

Wednesday 2 hours…

And yesterday 16 hours..!

Yesterday was a bitch, too..!

Not much in a bad way…

Just tons of work and ass busting labor at that…!

FOR 16 HOURS..!

AND every job that we did yesterday, I did one of the hardest parts, if not THE hardest part on ALL OF THEM..!

IMG_1496

OK. So this is where I work.

These long lanes that you’re seeing are where we pour the concrete.

It takes TONS of concrete to fill these lanes and inside them you can see what is actually inside of the concrete forms that make up overpasses, bridges, and pillars…

There is a lot of prep work and steel tying that goes into forming these concrete pieces.

The guys that do that work sometimes work 24 hours straight..!

My job, being part of the “pour crew is simply to pour the concrete.

Which really ISN’T that damn simple.

IMG_1493

This is one of my co workers busy cleaning out one of the lanes in preparation to us pouring…

We have to first clean the lanes and get out all the scrap metal with the help of a magnet…

I know it looks like he is busy at work cleaning out the lane here…

But really, he dropped the magnet into the lane and this is him trying to get it out.

IMG_1497

This is the bucket we use while pouring the concrete…

I know it doesn’t look like it here. But this thing is HUGE…!

It’s like 10 feet tall and a big ass forklift is what brings the concrete in another bucket to be dumped into this one. Which an overhead crane then lifts and transports to where it is needed.

Most pours take like 20 + buckets to complete.

So those are some pics along with a little background about the job…

As I wrap this up, I’ll tell you one more quick little story…

Yesterday we did 6 pours.

A shit ton of work…

On the last pour, it was outside in the rain, and snow, and dark.

It was a slab of concrete similar to this one.

images (3).jpg

A hundred yards of concrete…

Which I googled and learned equaled 10 cement mixer trucks..!

Useless fact really.

But while working on this slab we had all this heavy equipment around us for the lights they had…

Well, at one point one of the pieces of heavy equipment was in the way and needed to be moved…

It was a boom lift like this one…

200601101657119400.jpg

Well, the boss said ” Joe move that lift..”

I have never operated one of these before and the bosses had never seen me in any equipment…

When I learned the bobcat, I was with the supervisor who got fired.

Also, I pay attention to everything for some reason. And maybe like an hour earlier, the forklift driver was instructed to move that same lift.

He has been working at the company for only like a week himself. And the boss told him, “make sure you turn off the orange button…”

“It’s the parking brake…”

That was all I had to go on…

Still, I took that info and I jumped at the opportunity, never flinching.

I climbed up in the machine hit the brake pedal. Then turned off the orange button. Then noticed the forward and reverse control on the steering column and put the machine in reverse…

The alert went off…

BEEP…

BEEP…

BEEP…

OK. No problem. I got this.

Then very carefully, I moved the machine…

When done. I got out and the boss said ” Joe, I didn’t know you knew how to operate heavy equipment..”

I said, ” I have a little experience with all sorts of machines…”

Which is not a lie. I really do.

And he said ” Well why didn’t you tell me that before..!”

I said ” Well, it never really came up before..”

I think I’m going to do pretty well with this company.

By the way…

I went to work at 6 am yesterday…

I didn’t clock out again until 10:15 pm.

Tomorrow I’ll be back at work.

Oh, and today is payday too.

Awesome.

An Ex Con GARNISHED and EXTORTED..!

As an ex con trying to rebuild and reestablish his life in the free world, for every step I try to take in the right direction…

It seems something always happens that tries to push me further towards the wrong direction.

And after you read this, you’ll understand better when I say, “it’s almost like they want me to fail and go back to prison…”

Who is ” they..” You might wonder.

The system.

So here is the deal…

I’ve been working my day laborer job, trying to work as much as possible in an effort to get out from under the drowning debt I have in bills.

Well, yesterday I work all day. And when I go to pick up my check which should have been a little over 50 bucks…

Guess how much it ended up being..?

26 dollars..!

What the fuck..?! I said.

Where’s the rest of my check at..? I asked.

Turns out that money was taken for garnished wages due to outstanding court fines, and a processing fee the temp service is allowed to tack on in addition to that garnishment..!

This totaled OVER  50 % of my income yesterday..!!

So if I already couldn’t survive on 200 dollars a week, then there CERTAINLY is no way I’m going to be able to survive on less than that..!!

This is really fucked up..!

I mean, yes, I owe a shit ton in court fines that I must pay if I ever hope to see a drivers license again. But we’re talking around 15,000 dollars..!

I’ve been out of prison now for 4 months now after 7 years in..!

I’ve got no real job training or experience…

No license or trade…

Because of that, I don’t make shit and I haven’t been able to find a decent job, yet.

So I haven’t really yet been in a position to even THINK about paying on any of that yet…

What I do know is that these court fines and this EXTORTION of my wages are going to make it really hard to live off of 26 dollars a day.

How the hell can I expect to pay any bills with that..!?

Where do the courts AND the temp service get off taking over 5o % of my pay..?!

Hell, I’m already making these people a KILLING..! And then they’re gonna add on a processing fee for the garnishments..!

AND the processing fee is higher than the damn garnishment..!

That is total bullshit..!

I like to think I’m out here doing as much as I can in an effort to get my life back on track.

But every time I turn around it’s something else.!

Check out this day labor pay check…

IMG_1465.JPG

That “Misc deduction” is the actually FEE the temp service TOOK for processing the garnishment..!

Here is my check before deductions…

IMG_1466.JPG

And here it is after.

IMG_1467.JPG

I’m going to shoot an Episode of The After Prison Show today about all of this, as well.

And it’s not going to be negative, either..

Aside from this crazy garnishment shit costing me more than half of my total earnings yesterday…

I do have quite a bit of good stuff going on regardless of all that.

Like the prospect of A REAL JOB..!

And a good one, too.

Oh, and today I’m going to give the bingo hall and preschool a bid for some mural work. I’ve got a meeting today at 6 PM for that.

Also, there are a few Paint Nite with Joe developments to mention, as well…!

So look updates to all of that coming in the near future…

And until then, how bout a laugh to stop the tears…

Help me out here…

I need a caption idea for this cartoon….

What do you think this guy should be saying to me after I see just how little my check is after all this garnishment extortion…

IMG_1471.JPG

Whelp, that’s about all I got for now.

Hope all of you have an awesome Tuesday and make the most of it.

I have no choice but to do exactly that, myself.

Valentines Day or an Ex Prisoner.

Today is Valentines Day. And this is the first Valentines Day I get to spend out in the free world…

I’m going to try and make today a nice special day for me and my girlfriend. Because truth be told, every holiday I’ve been out here for thus far has been a disaster.

Seriously, every one of them.

Halloween-disaster.

My birthday-not so much.

Thanksgiving-big disaster.

Christmas-big disaster.

New years-huge disaster.

Yep I don’t think there has been a holiday yet that hasn’t turned out to be a disaster …

So, there’s hope for today that that won’t happen.

Sorry also for snapping a little lately. And thank God I didn’t post YESTERDAY…

OhmyGod that would have been…

Well…

A disaster.

Yep, times are tough as fuck right now for ol Joe out here in the free world…

Bills are piling up.

Work has not been the best (as in actually having work that is….)

And old demons are playing on my conscious quite a bit.

But despite all that, I’m still focused on keeping on…

Gotta maintain the good fight and keep an optimistic outlook.

I’m constantly looking for BETTER MORE STABLE work.

And I’m looking to further my art ventures as much as I can, too.

Something will come from all this dedication as long as I just stay after it.

And stay after it, I do.

Today, I just want today to be a good day. A day where I can make my girlfriend happy and I can get done what I am supposed too.

You know, all this that I’m going through right now is EXACTLY why guys end up going back to prison…

It’s fucking de ja vu.

I mean, this was how it all started for me the last time before I spiraled out of control and ended up getting arrested and sent back to prison for 7 years.

I can’t let that happen this time.

And I won’t.

I remember the last time, back in 2008…

I had just gotten laid off from my job because of the “recession.”

I asked my girlfriend at the time, I said, “what is something that would make you NOT want to be with me..?”

“If you didn’t have a job and if we had no money.” She said.

Voila.

Drug sales entered the picture.

Definitely not going down that road again.

Moving on to more positive things…

It’s Valentines Day folks..! And I hope yours is a special one spent with someone just as special..!

I’m thankful that I’m not in prison for this one and that I’m able to spend it out here with the woman I love. No matter the circumstances. Fuck it for today.

Today is about love.

Tomorrow the stress can return.

Happy Valentines Day everyone.

A Positive Post from a Positive Guy..!

Oh, by the way…

I am BOB ROSS…lol

Hey how about something positive for a change..! Not the ol doom and gloom of late. Let’s talk about some good ol fashioned POS-SO-TIV-VITY..!

I think that works..lol

So last night I hosted my second Paint Nite with Joe event and this was after I worked my ass off all day on a construction clean up job..!

It takes an immense amount of persistence and hard work to get anywhere in life.

Believe me, I know…

Take it from a guy who just spent damn near a decade behind bars. And is now trying as hard as he can to get his life together. FOR ONCE IN HIS LIFE..!

So, I suck it up and do what I must if I want to see this art business of mine do anything.

Last night, was event number too.

Not a great showing that turned out for the event. But still, 9 people did. And that just about covered what I put into the COST of this Paint Nite with Joe..!

Yikes..!

I lost my ass a little bit. But what I did make in return can’t be bought for the price of admission..!

I made a lot of MENTAL NOTES and I learned a HECK OF A LOT..!

All of which will help me with my next event that I’m hoping to host in about two weeks…

So what did I learn…

Well, for starters… The pic to be painted was not as easy for everyone to draw as I thought it would be…

IMG_1226

Yep, this little fella right here was the cause of a lot of hassle for some folks last night…

Still, you’d be surprized to know that of the 9 people in attendance last night, about 6 of them did surprisingly well for NEVER HAVING ANY DRAWING EXPERIENCE AT ALL…

Does that speak more to the simplicity of the piece overall…? Or does that speak more to my AWESOME TEACHING ABILITY..?

I’ll let you be the judge of that one.

Still, yet, still (lol)…

I learned that a piece of this technical-ness is best to be PRE-DRAWN for the customers…

It would certainly make things a lot easier for the few who struggled…

Also, yet, still,still,yet, also…

OK I’ll stop.

I’m not sure if those who struggled, did so because of the technical level of the piece. Or because instead they were SHIT FACED DRUNK.

Yes, there were a few who were just that. And I tend to think their difficulties with the piece came from their drunkenness and NOT the technical nature of the piece.

Proof is in the fact that 3 children who were in attendance did QUITE WELL with the piece.

So, yep.

Learning.

We also put together some really awesome goodie bags as a token of appreciation for those who were took part in the event last night, as well.

This is something I believe really HAS to be done. I want the customers to know that their business is SUPER APPRECIATED..!

Check out facebook.com/paintnitewithjoe  for more. There is a lot more there actually. And while there, please LIKE Paint Nite with Joe..!

That’s all for now….

Motivated.

Positive.

And ready to make the most of this beautiful day…

I hope you will, as well.

Take care.

Shooting heroin on the job and jumping out of a moving car. Nothing much.

So I haven’t had a chance to update you on the latest of what’s been going on. And it’s s lot that has been going on…

First, let’s start with the restaurant I met with on Super Bowl Sunday to discuss some possible mural work to be done…

The meeting went well after much turbulence in my own personal life…

Crazy the damn meeting still happened actually. After everything I’ve been dealing with that is just WAY TOO PERSONAL to get into here…

But, the meeting did happen, none the less, and even though no work was decided upon at that exact moment…

My pitch and proposal, I thought, I did very well with.

I was slow, and precise. And I showcased exactly what I could do and what I had in mind.

There is a good chance some work will come from this.

And I will follow up with this restaurant in a few days…

By the way, this was a philly style sub restaurant…

Here is one of the images I drew up depicting some “Philly” humor…

It’s Ben Franklin eating a philly cheese steak..!

Pretty awesome, right..?!

I drew up a ton of roughs for this restaurant proposal and I’m hoping something does come from all this.

Here’s a pretty awesome piece already painted at this restaurant just to give you a look inside this place…

So next up is my crazy life leading up to today’s Paint Night with Joe event…

My life is crazy, ya’ll…

First, I’m working as much as I can.

Right now we’re out on this new construction site literally 5 mins from my house. And it’s good.

But I heard that halfway around the world on some far off land in some far off place. No where near where I’m working there’s this guy who is shooting up heroin during his lunch break…

That’s pretty f&$@ing crazy,right?

Yeah, not really sure that’s the safest thing to be doing or the safest guy to be working around.
Addiction….

That’s a real mother f&$&er. Especially when it seems to have you by the balls. And it’s has too if your on the job shooting up.

Staying with that same addiction topic…

Yesterday I was tempted in a way I haven’t yet been…

A friend of mine called and told me he had a bunch of my favorite pills and needed to know what I thought the street value of them was….

I told him I didn’t kno, all the while battling that little voice in my head telling me ” OHMYGOD..! LETS GET THESE PILLS..!!

But somehow, I resisted that urge and temptation.

I was really proud of myself for that.

So moving on…

Today I go back to work construction clean up. Then this evening is my second Paint Night with Joe event. And I’m hoping for a good turn out….

I really need a good turn out.

Only time will tell though.

And that’s about it.

As I’ve said before in recent posts….

I’m hoping to get an episode shot really soon. But I’m still in need of a camera to make that happen.

Been catching a little flak for the I video horizontal look to my recent videos…

The After Prison Show will bounce back in a major way. And hopefully it does after this potentially big week for my art…

By the way, I’ve got a good amount of potential art sales this week. So fingers crossed on that, as well.

So that’s about all I can get into now….

I wish I could tell you some more crazy s$&@ like how I jumped out of a moving car yesterday. But that just did not happen…

Or did it..?

Take care everyone. Enjoy your Tuesday and make the right decisions in your life…

Everyday I’m hoping and praying that I’m making the right ones in mine.

A news story and a news chick…

I’m not sure what these two things will have in common other than they both in some form or fashion deal with the news…

One being a story I just saw on the news this evening.

The other being a reportress of the news.

Wait…

“Report-tress.”

I think I may have just made that up. And if I did, it is genius..!

Moving on.

Let’s start first with the story that I saw on wavy TV 10 at 6 pm…

It was a segment called “life after release..”

It featured a couple of ex prisoners who were trying to find work after prison and the hardships they each faced…

Ironically similar to my webseries The After Prison Show. Which focuses on that as well..!

Pretty ironic.

Oh and for those of you who didn’t get a chance to see this segment…

Check it out here.

It’s pretty crazy and hits especially close to home for me… What with all that I’m doing with The After Prison Show.

So yeah….

That’s the news story.

Now for the news reporter.

“Naden Yanes..”

This news reporter I’ve watched now for some time.

I’m sure countless individuals such as myself are pretty familiar with who she is. Especially in the local area and those who watch WTKR News channel 3.

For no other reason other than on Facebook I saw that she updated her profile pic, I drew this’s cartoon of her.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that while in prison I had the idea to caricature the entire News Channel 3 cast…

So maybe this is the start to that. And maybe one of them sees what I created of them and are like “hey, that’s pretty awesome.”

Which maybe leads them to do a little investigative reporting into who I am and what all this talk about The After Prison Show is about…

And they’re then like ” oh wow, this is interesting…

And then that leads to…

Well you get the idea.

So with all that and without further ado..

Here is Nadeem Yanes and the caricature i did of her.

Enjoy..!

I was drinking when I wrote this…

What a day..!

And what a night, too…!

I mean, it’s Friday night and I’m sitting here typing up a post..!

Yikes.

Can somebody say “no life..!”

Kidding.

Please don’t take offense anyone who might also have spent there Friday night the same.

So, yeah…

What a day..!

Thank God it’s over with, too..!

Today I worked my awesome flagging job making the big bucks..!

No amount of 30+ mph winds that threatened to blow the stop/slow paddle out of my hand all day, or reckless drivers barreling down on me at breakneck speeds could out my flame when it comes to what the pay is like with this gig…

It’s all well worth the sacrifice…

Like working 8 hours straight with no lunch break..!

But thats another thing altogether. You know, for the labor board…

Kidding.

Or, am I..?

So, yeah…

I want to talk about something…

It would appear to me that certain folks are not happy with my videos as of late.

I’ve had a few NASTY comments, which I can handle.

Unfortunately I erased them which now I’m having mixed feelings about.

But still…

I understand that not everyone is going to like everything that I create..!

Some folks would like to argue that employers could get mad or upset for BLASTING and exposing the workplace…

But let me ask you something in relation to that…

Folks, where do I work..?

Do you know..?

No.

Why..?

Because it’s the same philosophy as when I was in prison and I would never mention the name of the facility I was housed at…

That way I never truly BLAST or EXPOSE anyone in particular. Or anything.

Or any place.

I do this ever so strategically as to not interrupt the flow of the cosmos…

In laments terms…

I’m not going to put at risk anyone or anything….

I’m a pretty smart guy I like to think.

Sometimes I’d even go as far as to call myself “genius..”

It’s true. Really.

I’m not some dumb fuck just posting with no direction or purpose here…

Let my words resonate with you…

By the end of 2016, it’s my hope to reach a major cable network..!

Remember that.

So yeah, if I upset some folks along the way. Well, I apologize…

But what I’m working towards is much bigger than that. Some folks won’t believe in it.

Some may even lose faith in my capability…

But hear these words…

Where one stops believing…

I’ll make three more believe.

If you hear me bitch and complain about minimum wage on a construction job…

Ask yourself this first before you pass judgement…

Would you work construction for minimum wage…?

Ass busting, psychical work all day..?

No. You wouldn’t. How ever you try and spin it.

You wouldn’t.

And if you did, for some miraculous reason…

You would say that you would do whatever you had to to improve upon the situation…

I.E. I shoot videos…

Because it’s through this extra ordinary measure that I WILL improve upon MY situation.

So, that’s about the gist of it.

What I create, I hope you enjoy and I hope you feel it…

Because it gets more real by the day.

And I’m pulling LESS punches by the day as well.

Rock with me folks…

Stay with me.

Even if one or two videos you’re like “ehhh.”

I’ll come back like “BLAM” with the follow up.

Thank you all for sticking around.

Bigger and better things are on the way.

Trans gender After Prison and a Paint Party

What a combination for a title, huh..?

Well, hello everyone..! It’s been a few days since I last posted  and since then a new episode of The After Prison Show has been created..!

What an interesting episode this one turned out to be too…

It features “Kendra,” a trans gender woman and her struggle with addiction and acceptance.

Click here to check it out.

We had to go on quite the adventure to shoot this episode too…

Hell, the car ride was so long we actually have another entire episode just from footage we shot while traveling. But that hasn’t been put together just yet.

Soon, enough though…

The shoot with Kendra went pretty good. I won’t lie, it wasn’t our easiest shoot. And that was because Kendra liked to talk…

And not really answer the questions I would ask…

Or if she did, she would go on for DAYS with the answers…

And she used “like,” “um,” and “you know,” every other word.

But aside from those minor things, I feel like Levi and I really put together an awesome episode..!

We had a lot of fun in the process too.

On location filming here…

It was such a beautiful are too that we went too…

We met a friend of Kendra’s who turned out to be one of the coolest chicks I think either of us had ever met. And that made things really awesome, too.

So a special shout out to you who reads this who knows who you are..! lol

The next big thing on the radar is my very first upcoming paint party…

Which is NEXT WEEK..!

I’ve already sold a bunch of ticket, too. And I’ve even been working on the piece that we will be painting at this event.

I actually painted it yesterday start to finish in one hour…

And the event is a two hour event. So this will be perfect because that will leave plenty of room for socializing.

This is the painting too, by the way.

I think I’m going to start doing paintings like this on a daily basis and then try to sell them online somewhere.

So that’s about everything right this second…

Don’t want to make this too long. There’s already a 17 min video I’m hoping I can get you to sit though… lol

Take care and let me know what you think..!
