3 Men shot while sitting in the wrong neighborhood

This is a video that has blown up in my local area here in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Basically the back story to this video is that these three guys had some beef with some other guys from the neighborhood they were shot in.

These guys thought nothing would happen if they went to their neighborhood and sat in the car, smoking weed, and listening to music. But as you’ll see in this video, that wasn’t the case at all.

The video is long ( over an hour. ) But if you skip to about 5 mins and 30 seconds into it, that is were I would suggest you start from. Because soon thereafter, is when all hell breaks loose.

Also, keep watching it after the endless amount of gun shots, because it gets very real after that.

This is as close as you can get to what the violence is like out here in the streets without actually going through it yourself.

Also, welcome to AfterPrisonShow.com for those of you who may not be familiar with this site.

I’m Joe a guy who has served 7 years in prison for non violent drug and weapons possession charges.

I have been through a hell of a journey incarcerated, and since being released from prison and trying to get my life back on track.

I also shoot videos for YouTube about all of this and more.

If you’d like, please follow AfterPrisonShow.com and also subscribe to us as well on YouTube.

I saw a man killed today at my job…

Would you take a plea deal for 25 years..?

A woman murders her husband after 6 YEARS of abuse… Did she deserve prison time..?

It’s a lonely life for an ex prisoner who works all the time.

It’s 5 in the morning and I can’t remember if I have to be at work at 7 this morning or at 8…

Quite sure I’m already in overtime too. But that is the norm for my job…

Overtime comes pretty early in the week.

Hell, my boss told me Wednesday night that he was already at 53 hrs for the week.!

This job allows no time for a life or anything else, and yet it’s time and more of it that I need badly if I’m ever going to get where I really hope to be with The After Prison Show.

I’m working 10…

Even 16 hrs a day somedays and still trying to find whatever time I can to shoot, edit, and upload not only new videos to The After Prison Show…

But more importantly…

Awesome videos..!

I’m fucking tired, though.

And I have work in an hour or two which is sure to be hell. But even with that, I wanted to take some time and tell you all of what I’ve been doing lately in an effort to get the show out there.

First, I finally have the new camera..!

Took me long enough to get that, right..! lol

But I did finally get this awesome little canon vixia camera that does everything that I needed a camera to do.

And it’s compatible with the outsourced mics..!

So that is fucking awesome.

I also purchased  Sony Vegas movie editing software and that will help to make the high def video I shoot look even better with the use of effects, green-screens, and all sorts of other stuff, too.

But guess what..?

The cd-rom drive on my laptop is broken…

So I haven’t yet been able to upload the software.

In-turn, I had to order an external cd-rom drive that I should hopefully have by next week.

It will be then that I really try to get moving further and faster with video content.

Also, when I’m not shooting videos or working like a madman, I’m on YouTube literally studying why what works for all these successful channels.

See many of you may brush off YouTube as an over saturated media source for any and everything…

And to hear of a guy trying to “make it on YouTube” may sound a bit far fetched…

But I truly believe it can be done, and that I can be the one to get it done.

That does bring me to another little hindrance that I’ve been also dealing with. And that is the lack of tangible support that I have.

And I’m not talking about views and subscribers, either.( Even though, I am a little lacking there, as well.)

I’m talking about having people to actually be there to help me create these videos.

Like in real time, and  real life.

That also makes me realize, that I sort of have no life…

And no friends.

Truth be told, I am a loser.

My life consist of getting up at all hours of the day and night, trying to squeeze out whatever I can from the little time I try to allow myself before work. And then going to work and leaving it all on the field. Only to come home completely exhausted and wanting nothing other than to just take a shower, get something to eat, and go to sleep.

And sometimes, that’s all I really, literally, have time to do…

I might get off at 2 am and have to be right back at 6am.

That’s been the case just this week as a matter of fact.

But yep….

I’m a loser with no friends trying to create on YouTube whenever I’m not getting worked to death.

And hell, you wouldn’t even know these little truths from looking at my videos…

I’m used to being alone, I guess.

Prison for 7 years might make you feel like that.

But one thing about it, I always find a way to entertain myself…

And others, I hope.

I have some pretty awesome video ideas upcoming. But I won’t spoil the fun by telling you all those just yet.

Instead, in closing, I’ll leave you with a link to my latest video…

I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks, and take care.

Have an awesome weekend and I look forward to talking with you again real soon.

Here’s the video..!

For all those really, REALLY special moms on Mother’s Day…

Today is Mother’s Day and this is a very special day…

It’s the first Mother’s Day in the last 7 years that I haven’t been in prison for. And also, the relationship between my Mom and me is getting a lot better.

I love my mom.

I love all moms actually.

Shout out to all the mom out there.

Are you a mom..?

Well, if so, raise your hand in the air.

You didn’t just do that, did you..?

Ok. So look here’s the deal…

Mother’s Day is always so lovey dovey. And don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that. But I want to laugh and hopefully make others laugh, too..!

On Mother’s Day..!

So I put this video together in an attempt to do just that.

It has caused me to get cussed out and blocked by a few MOMS out there.

To some, yes. It will be offensive, I guess. But to others, it is funny.

So without further ado…

Lets see what YOU think about it…

I hope you laugh.

Regardless though I want to hear your thoughts on it.

So I hope you will comment please and let me know what you think about this video.

Happy Mother’s Day to all…

Even the whore mothers.

What would you do if you found out the person you were dating was really of the opposite sex?

So I’m trying to really get back to my blog. I swear I am. Time constraints from the job and everything else that I’m trying to put into motion just make that damn hard to do.

But I’m here now because I have a break between concrete pours and I just wanted to let all of you know what’s been going on lately.

I just held my third Paint Nite with Joe event this past Sunday and it absolutely tanked…

I had a total of three people show up to the event.

That was pretty discouraging. But still, I realized that my lack of promoting the event was the cause of the poor attendance.

So, for the next one, I will have to do a lot more promoting.

Also, I’ve been shooting videos for the The After Prison Show.

I just shot a new one yesterday and I’m curious to know what you think about it.

It’s a really edgy topic that I sort of make funny and I’m not sure what the response to that will be. Whether received well. Or hated…

So I ask all of you to weigh in and let me know what you think.

Check it out here, please.

It’s on the topic of “transgenders.” And with so much in the news about supporting or not supporting transgenders. I thought why not pose a legitimate question on the topic.

Annnnd, sort of have some fun while doing so.

Again, heres the the link to this InTeReStInG video

But I’m not sure if it might just be a little too much. Which is why I’m hoping that you will offer up your thoughts on the topic or the video in general.

I appreciate you doing so and I hope to be making a comeback here.

I miss this place.

And I miss all the support I used to get from everyone here.

Also I’ve got some new video equipment on the way now..!

So videos that I’ll be shooting in the near future will be a heck of a lot better than anything I’m doing right this second with an Ipad camera and some basic movie maker software.

Hell, I’ll be able to do green screen work very soon..!

So just imagine how awesome my content will be then.

That is…

If you even think it’s awesome in the first place…

Well, that’s all for now and until we meet again…

Stay safe and enjoy life.

Rivers and roads to and from prison

Well I know I’m pretty much a stranger here these days. But I do miss my blog and blogging friends and everyone else who comments and checks my content out.

Life has just been life lately…

But such is life that we adapt, (or die.) And we keep it moving.

So I’m here with all sorts of goodies.

First, I’ve been painting up a storm in preparation of an upcoming Paint Nite with Joe event.

Here is two examples of paintings I’ve done lately….

So yep…

Those are some of the pieces I’ve been working on. There are more…

But the images are sideways are I don’t have time to figure out how to get the right-side up right now.

I really am proud of these pieces, though…

Next up, I finally got a chance to put together a new video for The After Prison Show.

It’s called Rivers and Roads to and from prison.

Hey that’s the same thing that I titled this post as..! Lol

Please check it out and let me know your thoughts. It’s a lot different from what I’ve been doing with more recent videos.

It’s a really good video, I think….

Other than that, I’m back to work since the tragedy that happened last week. It’s been tough, but things have to move forward…

And I have to keep doing the most that I can to make a positive impactful path for myself- and others.

Thanks for all of your support, still…

Even when I’m lacking on my posting.

I saw a man killed today at my job…

I hadn’t really had any intentions on writing anything lately.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. There’s been all sorts of stuff I could have posted about. But, I just didn’t want too, to be honest.

I guess I had lost my interest in things here.

But today has been a day that has changed all that.

Let me first start by saying that I really appreciated the job that I have…

It’s a good job for a guy like me.

I’m an ex con with limited skills, and no drivers license.

Yet, this job has given me an opportunity to work hard and prove myself.

I make decent money that I am able to survive on. But there is a down side to this, as well…

It’s a grueling ass busting job at a concrete plant, where you work insane hours under high stress and very dangerous conditions.

To give you an example of what I mean here, just yesterday I worked until from noon until 1am. Then I had to be back at work today at 4am for what was supposed to be about a 16+ hour day.

Well, by the fact that I’m typing this up at 10:55am, I’m sure you can imagine that that wasn’t the case today.

And the reason is because something horrific happened today at work.

It started at about 8:15am…

We were in the middle of a “long pour.”

We were pouring concrete into a form that is about 100 yards long.

It’s a tall form too…

Inside of a huge building with huge bay doors at the end of it.

Through those bay doors we can see out into the yard where everything is moving all the time.

Tons and tons of heavy equipment.

From the top of the form, my crew and I can see everything.

It was there I watched this guy who works on the clean up crew walk by carrying a wheelbarrow outside towards the dumpster.

He was smiling.

Then, the first thing happened.

Our large overhead crane that transports a huge bucket of concrete from the ground to the top of the form for pouring stopped working.

It just stopped and we didn’t know why.

A mad panic broke out because these pours are serious money…

Your talking hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line for a single pour.

Mechanics were called and we were left waiting.

Then a big boss walked by and said that the other overhead crane had caught fire which probably fucked up our crane.

Before anyone could say or do or even think about that, there was a huge commotion from right outside the bay doors.

Everyone started rushing out into the yard saying that someone had just been killed.

From on top of the form my crew and I walked to the end of the form to see what the hell was going on. And it was there that I saw something that absolutely traumatized me…

There, laying on the ground was the guy who worked on the clean up crew, who I had just seen moments earlier.

He was right behind the 6 ft wheel of a giant travel lift.

I couldn’t even make sense of what I was seeing at first…

I didn’t understand what I was looking at…

At first I thought something had fallen from the lift and crushed his head.

It was gruesome.

The worst thing that I had ever seen before.

But then as my brain started to register with what my eyes were seeing, I realized that what I thought was on his head wasn’t anything at all.

It was the wheelbarrow…

Broken at the handles, while the rest of this guy laid on the ground completely crushed.

Somehow one of the giant four wheels of travel lift had caught this guy and ran him completely over.

I started to lose it as did everyone else.

I’m running on two hours of sleep, and I seriously thought I was going to throw up then pass out.

How the fuck did that happen..! I thought.

This guy was just right there..!

This is also something your not going to fully grasp because you didn’t see this for yourself…

But when I asked who that was because I thought it was someone else…

And then they told me…

Again, my brain couldn’t register this.

The guy they told me it was was short…

This guy looked tall.

But then I realized that the crushing weight of the machine probably caused that.

Everything went to hell after that.

When I first walked to the edge of the form to see this horrific tragedy…

It had just happened.

The spotter for the lift was standing right there looking at this guy.

The lift operator was in complete shock.

Then someone went up to the guy laying on the ground and must have realized there was nothing he could do.

He fell apart after that.

The scene was eventually cordoned off, and then the police arrived.

By that point, they were starting to send everyone home.

The plant completely shut down.

The pour we were in the middle of was chalked up as a loss as it very well should have been.

A man lost his life for this company today..!

Employees are seriously affected by this tragedy as I KNOW I am…

I will never get this imagine out of my head.

I’m not sure I’ll overcome the thoughts either…

This could have been anyone…

This could have been me..!

How horrific of a way to go being completely crushed to death..!

When the machine caught him, did he yell..?

Did he scream..?

Did he even have time too..?

In an instant, there was the result of all this.

When I came home, I needed someone to talk too….

So I called my mom and I cried…

Then I decided to walk to 7-11 to get some beer to try and dull these crazy thoughts I’m feeling about all this…

As I was walking, a truck pulled up beside me, and it was a guy from the plant I had seen around but never talked too.

He recognized the company shirt I still had on…

He offered to give me lift and asked if I knew the guy who was killed today and I said I had seen him around a bunch and talked to him on a few occasions. But that I didn’t know him, too well.

He knew the guy pretty well. And he cried too thinking about this crazy accident.

Life can be gone in an instant is what I saw first hand today.

Now I drink a beer for this guy because he, himself, will never get a chance to do so again.

God rest his soul.

Mi-Jack_Travelift_MJ_55_005.jpgThis is sort of like the kind of lift that killed this guy…

Only it was bigger and the operator sits alot higher up.

Here is the news story.

A little update about an awesome job I found as an ex con with little experience.

So here’s a little logic to keep in mind for the afterprisonshow.

If I’m not posting, that is because I’m working.

But if I am posting, well then, obviously I am not working…

Unless of course we’re talking about anytime I posted while at work on a job for the temp service…

Working on jobs that did not matter at all…

( I will never miss an opportunity to take jabs at them…)

So yeah, I’ve been working my ass off lately. And today, it’s Friday and I’m not work.

Well because we worked 16 straight hours yesterday with no lunch break..!

Crazy right..?

Sounds like something I might complain about right..?

Well, surprisingly. I’m not.

Because this job is actually a good job with a lot of room for advancement.

Especially for a guy like me.

An ex con who works hard and is willing to learn what he needs to in order to advance.

So, let me give you a little background  about this job, and what this first week on it has been like.

First, I have to say, that it’s always funny being the new guy and trying to figure out what is what and who is who…

Kind of a lot like life in prison.

But since getting hired I’ve realized a few things…

  1. I’m not the only new guy… There are tons of new guys… In fact most everyone I seem to meet is relatively new.
  2. Not a lot of these guys are really willing to go the extra mile to make a name for themselves at this company. But I am, and that extra push I put into this job is already being recognized… AND AFTER ONLY A WEEK AT THAT..!

There is one other thing that I realized as well. But I wanted to seperate this from the list for the fact that it is pretty crazy…

There was this new guy who started maybe a week before me…

He was hired as a supervisor…

When he introduced himself to me…

He did so as “Supervisor..”

A real character this guy WAS.

What I guess he did was told the company that he had 15 YEARS of experience and they in turn said…

“Well, holy shit..! We’re going to hire you as a supervisor then..!”

FYI… I told the company I had “a little experience.”

Turns out this guy didn’t know shit about the job or the concrete casting trade…

Also, he didn’t know how to be a supervisor either. And that little power title went to his head faster than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest…

Sorry. I was looking for a funny redneck metaphor…

It was the best one I could find on the fly.

This supervisor guy was causing all sorts of problems and making life on the job really difficult.

Just as my work ethic was being recognized, so was this guys problematic nature…

He got fired last night.

This week I worked 7 hours on Tuesday.

2 hours on Wednesday. ( In part due to the supervisor fraud and him causing problems with some of the guys. Who in part, called the real boss. And in part sent everyone home…)

Maybe they were testing that supervisors, supervising abilities which turned out to be an EPIC fail…

Funny too, how all we were doing on Tuesday was PICKING UP TRASH..!

BUT, something GOOD did come from Tuesday…

I did learn how to operate a BOBCAT.bobcat-760078.jpg

One thing, among many other things that I like about this company is that they will let you learn anything here…

If you want to learn to operate heavy equipment…

“Hey get in there…”

I do have a little experience with heavy equipment, too.

So I jumped at the opportunity to get some more with this bobcat.

By the way…

Operators of heavy equipment make more money..!

I want more money.

So again, Tuesday 7 hours…

Wednesday 2 hours…

And yesterday 16 hours..!

Yesterday was a bitch, too..!

Not much in a bad way…

Just tons of work and ass busting labor at that…!

AND every job that we did yesterday, I did one of the hardest parts, if not THE hardest part on ALL OF THEM..!

OK. So this is where I work.

These long lanes that you’re seeing are where we pour the concrete.

It takes TONS of concrete to fill these lanes and inside them you can see what is actually inside of the concrete forms that make up overpasses, bridges, and pillars…

There is a lot of prep work and steel tying that goes into forming these concrete pieces.

The guys that do that work sometimes work 24 hours straight..!

My job, being part of the “pour crew is simply to pour the concrete.

Which really ISN’T that damn simple.

This is one of my co workers busy cleaning out one of the lanes in preparation to us pouring…

We have to first clean the lanes and get out all the scrap metal with the help of a magnet…

I know it looks like he is busy at work cleaning out the lane here…

But really, he dropped the magnet into the lane and this is him trying to get it out.

This is the bucket we use while pouring the concrete…

I know it doesn’t look like it here. But this thing is HUGE…!

It’s like 10 feet tall and a big ass forklift is what brings the concrete in another bucket to be dumped into this one. Which an overhead crane then lifts and transports to where it is needed.

Most pours take like 20 + buckets to complete.

So those are some pics along with a little background about the job…

As I wrap this up, I’ll tell you one more quick little story…

Yesterday we did 6 pours.

A shit ton of work…

On the last pour, it was outside in the rain, and snow, and dark.

It was a slab of concrete similar to this one.

images (3).jpg

A hundred yards of concrete…

Which I googled and learned equaled 10 cement mixer trucks..!

Useless fact really.

But while working on this slab we had all this heavy equipment around us for the lights they had…

Well, at one point one of the pieces of heavy equipment was in the way and needed to be moved…

It was a boom lift like this one…

Well, the boss said ” Joe move that lift..”

I have never operated one of these before and the bosses had never seen me in any equipment…

When I learned the bobcat, I was with the supervisor who got fired.

Also, I pay attention to everything for some reason. And maybe like an hour earlier, the forklift driver was instructed to move that same lift.

He has been working at the company for only like a week himself. And the boss told him, “make sure you turn off the orange button…”

“It’s the parking brake…”

That was all I had to go on…

Still, I took that info and I jumped at the opportunity, never flinching.

I climbed up in the machine hit the brake pedal. Then turned off the orange button. Then noticed the forward and reverse control on the steering column and put the machine in reverse…

The alert went off…

OK. No problem. I got this.

Then very carefully, I moved the machine…

When done. I got out and the boss said ” Joe, I didn’t know you knew how to operate heavy equipment..”

I said, ” I have a little experience with all sorts of machines…”

Which is not a lie. I really do.

And he said ” Well why didn’t you tell me that before..!”

I said ” Well, it never really came up before..”

I think I’m going to do pretty well with this company.

By the way…

I went to work at 6 am yesterday…

I didn’t clock out again until 10:15 pm.

Tomorrow I’ll be back at work.

Oh, and today is payday too.

Learning graphic design, my new job, and someone shot at my Paint Nite venue.

It’s Monday morning and I leap year day according to what Facebook alerted me to first thing this morning when I woke up.

I also don’t have work today which kind of sucks. But hopefully things improve by tomorrow.

With the new job, I am part of a “pour crew” for a big time manufacturer of gigantic concrete forms that are used on roads and bridges…

All we do is pour the concrete into those forms once they’re ready to be poured.

Sounds easy enough right..?

Well, it’s ass-busting work, actually.

I mean, some of the forms are as long as a football field, broke up into sections of individual pieces inside them.

Regardless of the ass busting nature of the job, I do enjoy it. And hope that it is all that  it is cracked up to be with lots of hours per week and room for advancement.

But, again…

Today I am off because we have to wait for forms to be prepared before we can pour.

So… What will I get into today..!?

Well, I think I going to continue having fun with a new found passion of mine…

Graphic design.

I really like graphic design, and I’ve just started to learn how to use Photoshop.

I actually want to start using it to create caricatures with, but that isn’t easy.

What I have created lately is a little easier to make.

Custom memes…

These are some examples of what I’ve been doing.

Today I will create more.

In fact, it’s my hope to create the title image for this post..! So hopefully, by time your are this far into this post, you will long ago already have seen that.

Also I haven’t mentioned Paint Nite with Joe, yet…

Hey did I ever tell you about my venue where I host Paint Nite with Joe and how it gets a really bad rap for being in a not so great area..?

The place is decent..! I swear, it is..!

But Jesus..!

This place can’t catch a break..!

And it’s shit like this that is why that is.

Oh well. Maybe I’ll just try to act like it didn’t happen.

Regardless of all that, today is going to be a good day…

I’m going to make it a good day.

You should make today a good day too.

First Day on the new job…

Yesterday was my first day on the new job and it was pretty interesting…

I got to work and met two other individuals who were to start yesterday, as well.

Turns out, I must have come at exactly the right time to fill out that application because it seemed there were doing a bit of hiring at that time…

So I get my new employee ID and get sent to my crew.

I’m now officially part of a “pour crew…” Which entails pouring concrete into huge steel boxes that are designed to form giant concrete structures.

Also the pour crew does a lot of clean up, as well. Which I don’t mind. Hell, that is all I did at the temp service..!

So yesterday being my first day, I met the guys on my crew and they all seemed to be pretty cool…

There are 5 of us workers, then a foreman and a bigger boss man. And of the 5 workers, 3 are new.

One has been there 2 days…

One has been there a week…

And one has been there 3 weeks.

Then add me to that and it’s a whole new crew, basically.

We were doing all clean up yesterday.

Lots of clean up.

Supposedly, in preparation for some “pours” that were scheduled for later that day…

And I mean way later too…

Like 9 PM.

We were supposed to work this super long day yesterday that could have gone till like MIDNIGHT..! But I think the weather caused that to be changed. Because the weather was really bad.

It started thunder storming and that killed the work day after only 5 hrs. But still, even though it was a short day. I learned a little of what the job entails.

I learned that we get 50-60 + hrs a week.

I’m making 10.00 an hr starting out. And after 90 days I’m eligible for like a 2-3 DOLLAR raise..!

Plus full benefits..!

Oh and by the way, this place is like prison on the outside world…

Meaning that EVERYONE here is an ex con..!

I have found home.

Also yesterday I got to kick it with my good friend LEE who helped me get this job and I haven’t seen him since prison..!

Lee is a stand up dude. And it’s great to be working with him.

I’m blessed to have this job. And I intend to make full use of it and not ever take this opportunity for granted.

I may never see another opportunity like this and because of that I have to do my very best with this.

There’s a real chance for me to get ahead for once since being out and I’m hoping to do just that.

Enjoy today everyone and make the most of it..!
